Falling electricity poles in Lagos

Two separate poles (seen above) are about to fall and pose great danger to residents in the area. One pole is on Galilee Avenue and the other is on Salau street, not far from the first. S’African women protest against Zuma ‘sex act’ painting

Female supporters of South African President Jacob Zuma on Friday marched through the capital Pretoria to defend him against attacks including a satirical painting depicting him engaged in a sex act. Several hundred members of African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) rallied outside the Union Buildings, the official seat of the government. A mother of three, Megan Shufflebarger was at Target with her youngest daughter Kinley, scanning the Target shelves ahead of her birthday, she listened to her stocked birthday list and apparently, she wasn't the only one. The 2-year-old stood in front of a row of dolls, she stopped and stared at the last blonde one on the shelf. Before the question "can I?" could leave her mouth, a young man walked over and knelt down next to her. He asked which one was her favorite. She pointed, "I really lub dis one." The teen chuckled and walked off with the doll. Kinley was noticeably disappointed.

Robbery attack on Eko bridge

Yet another robbery attack on Eko bridge inwards Costain around 9:45pm tonight. Hoodlums stopped several cars with cutlasses and guns and robbed from car to car on the bridge. Phones, bags, and money were taken from motorists. Some were injured. What the heck is going on in Lagos? These robberies are getting too much. The PDP says that the confirmation of former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a minster of the federal republic of Nigeria, has put a dent on APC's “pretentious war against corruption”. Cross Rivers state govt suspend morning devotion in primary and secondary schools, CAN reacts

The Cross Rivers state government has ordered the suspension of early morning devotions held in primary and secondary schools across the state. A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in the state, Anne Odey, stated that the decision to suspend the devotion came from security concerns raised by the state Commissioner of Police, Henry Fadairo. She said the state police commission had suggested the suspension of the age long practice following the prevailing security concerns in the country. In a swift reaction, the Christian Association of Nigeria called the state government to order.

Court of Appeal dismisses Saraki's appeal

The Abuja division of the court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal filed by senate president, Bukola Saraki challenging his trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The appeal court dismissed all 5 issues raised by Saraki in the appeal. Two of the three panel of judges ruled that his appeal lacks merit. This implies that the Code of Conduct will still go ahead with Saraki's trial. Saraki is being tried on a 13 count charge of false asset declaration when he was Kwara state governor. He is expected to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on November 5th.

BVN Deadline: 26m bank accounts to be frozen


With less than 1 day to the deadline for Bank Verification Number, BVN, about 26 million account holders still haven't registered to protect their money. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said no extension would be granted after the deadline expires and customers who still haven't registered will have no access to their money or any transaction in their account. According to CBN, the registration window will still be open after tomorrow, but unregistered customers will not be granted access to their accounts.

Two years after he was declared missing, Professor James Bolarinwa Olomo(pictured above) of the department of Nuclear And Medical Physics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Osun state is yet to be found. The University don left his home in Lagos on October 17, 2013, for a consultation job with an unidentified oil and gas company in Eket, Akwa Ibom and was last heard from on October 19th. His relatives and members of the OAU Academic Staff Union of Universities held a meeting in the school premises recently where they described the disappearance of the university don.

 Plateau state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Jos, the state capital, yesterday upheld the election of the state governor, Simon Bako Lalong. The tribunal in its ruling, struck out the petition of Gyang Pwajok of the PDP, stating that the petition lacked merit and the petitioner failed to prove that the April 11th election that produced Lalong as governor was marred with election irregularities. The tribunal ordered the petitioner and his party, PDP to pay a fine of N50,000 to the governor, his party APC and INEC.
