Scientists develop new disposable USB Memory Stick to measure HIV (Photos)

A group of scientists from Imperial College London and DNA Electronics,
have developed a disposable USB Memory Stick that can take a drop of
blood to determine the amount of HIV Virus in the blood. According to
the Washington Post, the revolutionary gadget can be plunged into a
laptop or other electronic devices to detect a patient’s HIV virus
quantity and status through the help of electrical signals.

The scientists disclosed that if the technology is
perfected, it could identify all sorts of foreign invaders in the blood
from hepatitis, bacterial and fungal sepsis. It will also be able to
measure the levels of HIV virus in a human’s system and help to
determine if a medication is effective on the virus or to change to
other drugs:

“At the moment, testing often requires costly and complex equipment that
can take a couple of days to produce a result. We have taken the job
done by this equipment, which is the size of a large photocopier, and
shrunk it down to a USB chip,” said Graham Cooke, one of the study
authors and a clinician scientist in Imperial’s Department of Medicine.

So just like your other take-home medical kits used at home, you can now
measure the amount of HIV in your blood as easily as you can check your
weight on the scale in your bathroom, run a blood sugar level test or
take your blood pressure using a home cuff, all at home.

However, the scientists have not disclosed when the new gadget will be available in the market.

U.S muslim teacher told in an anonymous note to hang herself with her headscarf

Mairah Teli, a Muslim teacher at Dacula High School in Gwinnett County,
the U.S. state of Georgia, received an anonymous note in her classroom,
telling her that the headscarf isn't allowed anymore.

The note written in black ink, with word America at the end besides the
drawing of an American flag, says that she should tie her headscarf
around her neck and hang herself with it.
In her Facebook post Mairah said,
"As a Muslim, I wear a headscarf as a practice of my faith. I want to
share this to raise awareness about the reality and climate of our
community. Spreading hate isn't going to 'make America great again. I
feel children feel safe making comments that are racist or sexist
because of him," said Mariah.
The 24-year-old language teacher suspects the note was written by one of
her students, adding that she feels the note is in reaction to Donald
Trump's victory in the presidential race. See the note below...

Meanwhile, the concerned authorities have said they are trying to identify the person who wrote the note.

President Buhari to attend climate change conference in Morroco

President Muhammadu Buhari will attend the 22nd Conference of the
Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate
Change (UNFCCC), also known as COP-22, in Marrakech, Morocco, from
November 14-16, 2016.

A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said President Buhari will participate in the
official opening plenary on November 15 where he will deliver his
national statement during the High Level Segment of COP 22.

According to Adesina, the Presidential address is expected to highlight, among other key
issues, Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to implementing the Nationally
Determined Contributions (NDCs) and policy actions aimed at tackling
climate change through environmental sustainable efforts.

President Buhari will also use the occasion of his speech to rally
international support for the clean-up of Ogoniland in the Niger Delta
and the resuscitation of the Lake Chad Basin.

While in Marrakech, the president would attend the Africa
Day Commemoration at COP 22 with the theme, “Moving from Commitments to
Action with Intended Nationally- Determined Contributions and African
Renewable Energy Initiative.” He will also attend the Summit of African
Heads of State on the sidelines of the Climate Change conference.

COP 22, which will be attended by representatives from 197 countries
including world leaders, environment ministers, government officials as
well as a wide range of representatives from civil society and the
private sector, is the first meeting of State Parties since the entry
into force of the landmark Paris Agreement on November 4, 2016.

The legally binding international Agreement on climate change, among
others, addresses issues of global warming, including its impact on food
security and agriculture.

It would be recalled that President
Buhari signed the Paris Agreement on September 22, 2016 at the margins
of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

 “Buoyed by that commitment, the
Nigerian delegation is optimistic that COP22 will provide a platform to
promote and enhance delivery of the purpose-driven environmental
sustainable agenda of the Federal Government,” the statement read.
